This is the opposite of what I want: Edge Brownie Pan

When you eat a brownie, do you prefer the pieces on the edge, or the pieces in the middle? If you prefer the edge pieces, then have I got a product for you.

Edge Brownie Pan

It’s a brownie pan designed to maximize the number of edge pieces. This, of course, is a plan to ruin a perfectly good set of brownies. Who wants the edge pieces? I’m looking for a brownie pan that produces no edges.

Is this the best we can do?

Tonight, on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, as well as on alternative news sites like Newsvine, reddit, and Digg, one story grips the nation: Paris Hilton is going back to jail.

Seriously, what is wrong with us? Look, I’m not saying that Paris Hilton did anything right here. She has been convicted of driving under the influence, and she deserves to go to jail.

But is this really the most important thing that’s going on right now? Is this what deserves our attention as a nation? How about, for example, the fact that tensions are rising between Russia and the United States? How about the fact that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is stepping down? How about the fact that Swiss Senator Dick Marty’s investigation accuses the United States of running secret prisons in Europe?

These are events that are actually newsworthy, and it’s shameful that our media is so rabidly focused on such an utterly trivial concern.

New Site Design

I’ve put together a new site design. I’ve been wanting to make something light and clean-looking for a while, and with my brother away at camp, I’ve had a lot of free, undistracted time to work on it.

It’s very much inspired by the default Tumblr theme. When I first saw that, I loved the clean, spacious look of the site, and I wanted to have something like it. So, yesterday and today I spent several hours modifying the default WordPress theme.

The other cool thing is this new theme supports WordPress Widgets, which make customizing the sidebar incredibly easy.

The icons are from the Silk collection at FamFamFam.com. This was also an opportunity for me to play with the Yahoo Grid, which made developing this theme much easier.

Let me know if anything looks out of place or if you see any errors. I’ve looked over everything over and over again, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t missed something.

Hope you like it!

Automatic Flickr Moblog

Automatic Flickr Moblog, originally uploaded by J. D. Harper.

Did you know that not only can you upload photos to flickr by email, but you can also set it up to automatically post those photos to your blog as well? That’s the theory anyway. I’m testing that theory now.

This is a clock that I got from the Chamber of Commerce.

Sent via BlackBerry from Cingular Wireless

Guess what I got!

Today I went to the Cingular AT&T store and got myself a shiny new phone, and I absolutely love it. The Blackberry Curve just came out this very week, and I knew from the reviews on Engadget that it was very well thought of by critics. I had known for several months that I needed to replace my beat up old Motorola V220, but I didn’t want a Palm Treo. Once I saw the prerelease photos of this phone, I knew I had found my new phone.

One of the reasons I wanted to get a smartphone is because I wanted to have exactly one phone/addressbook instead of a bunch of them in different email clients, my cell phone, and my PDA. Fortunately–and unlike my old Clie–my new phone syncs beautifully with Outlook. I’ll also always have a good todo list manager and calendar with me, and I now have constant internet access, so I can blog from anywhere. Plus having a keyboard is much, much better than the old graffiti input on the Clie.

All in all, this thing is just about perfect. I love it.
